Terminology


 A few terms that you may hear in and around the sport of Agility, if you do not find what you are looking for here, for example a Definition of an A Frame please check out the Rules for Agility as found on our Membership & Entering Page

 

A.      Agility: is a dog competition open to all dogs. Specifically with contact obstacles & weave poles ADO ADM ADX AD
Age: a dog must be at least 18 months of age in order to compete in any type of Agility Trial

B.      Back Cross: where the handler runs behind their dog in order to change direction

C.      Card: this will refer to a qualification or qually card. This records that your dog qualified in an event and has 1 Qualification towards a title.

D.      Double: This will prefix the words Agility Trial or Jumping Trial. The host club is offering 2 Agility Trials or 2 Jumping Trials on the same day. You can enter AD or JD twice that day.
DQ: dog disqualified from the event as may have taken an obstacle out of order. Judge will use hand signals of making a cross with both arms.

E.       Entrance: this will refer to the point at which handlers and dogs are to enter the ring when instructed to by the Ring Steward
Exit: this will refer to the point at which handlers and dogs are to leave the ring on completion of their run. The lead and collar will be positioned at the exit for the handler.

F.       Front Cross, where the handler performs a manoeuvre to change the dog’s direction

G.      Gazebo: A tent like structure used to house a competitor and their dogs during a trial

H.      Height Card: The card given to the handler that records that the dog named has recorded as measuring a height by 2 judges
Height: the height of the dog at the shoulder as measured by 2 judges. To be recorded on every entry form. The height will noted in a range therefore giving the height that the dog is required to jump.

J.        Jumpers: refers to the range of events in Jumping Agility JDO JDM JDX JD
Judge: The person, who designs the course, oversees its construction and determines whether a dog has completed the course clear and in time. Judges will assist in rule clarification and are to be shown the respect due to them.

K.       Xx

L.       Lead Steward; the person who you hand your lead (and collar if you wish) to when you have entered the ring and the judge has instructed you to do so.

M.    Xx

N.      NQ; Non Qualifying run, but placed in the top 3 i.e. 3NQ would be 3rd place NQ

O.     Xx

P.       XX

Q.     Quallie, Qually, Quali , Qualification this means that your dog has carried out the course in the required time in the correct order, negotiating all the jumps and obstacles in accordance with the rules. Well Done! See Titles Page for further details about applying for Titles with Quallies
Qualification Card: Proof that you dog achieved a qualification and required to apply for Titles.

R.      Run: the term used for the act of competing in the event, ‘how was your run?’ = ‘how did you do in the Agility Novice ring that you competed in?’

T.       Triple: This will prefix the words Agility Trial or Jumping Trial. The host club is offering 3 Agility Trials or 3 Jumping Trials on the same day. You can enter AD or JD three times that day.
